Wound Hub
Our practice no longer offers this service. This is now run in hubs across the City. For wound checks, dopplers and removal of sutures, you self-referral by ringing 0191 502 7419
Surgery Pod
At South Hylton Surgery and New Silksworth we have a surgery pod which measure, blood pressure, height, weight and BMI. You can use this during opening hours without the need for an appointment. Please ensure you hand your slip into reception.
Coils and Implant – Fitting and Removal
This service offers a pre fitting counselling service for coils and implants.
The patient is then booked into a sexual health clinic for either a contraceptive implant insertion or removal or reinsertion or an IUC either IUS or IUD/Copper coil.
Women’s Health Clinics
This service provides women with an opportunity to attend specific clinics to discuss gynaecological issues including vaginal bleeding, post coital bleeding, post menopausal bleeding, period disorders, vaginal discharge, vaginal lumps/lesions, prolapse, coil checks, STI checks and sexual health advice.
This clinic also includes contraceptive advice, new pill starts, pill checks, depo provera injections, HRT initiation, menopause advice, HRT repeat prescriptions, breast advice/examination, urinary disorders, coil removal, pregnancy testing.

Flu Clinics
Flu Clinics will commence early September and you will receive notification when appointments are available to book.
Important Information
It is vital that you DO NOT attend for vaccination if you or a member of your household currently has symptoms of COVID-19 or if you are self-isolating due to contact with a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19.
The vaccination is free and recommended yearly for those who are most at risk of contracting influenza.
This includes:
Child aged 2-10 years old*
Pregnant women
Anyone who suffers from a long term medical condition
Everyone aged 65 years and over
People who act as carers or work in health and social care
Close contacts of immune-compromised individuals
Those in long stay residential care homes.

If there is someone you relay on as your carer, please ask them to contact their own surgery as they may be eligible for a free flu vaccination too. Thank you.
Patients who are eligible for the Pneumonia and Shingles Vaccinations can also book at the same time. Please speak to our Reception Staff who will arrange an appointment at the same time.
Pre-school children aged 2-3 years will be vaccinated at their general practice. Children aged 4-10 years will normally be vaccinated at school.

Vaccinations
We provide weekly Childhood Immunisation Clinics on each of our sites. You will receive your child’s appointments from the Central Child Health Department detailing a date and time for your child to attend. Holiday Vaccinations – we hold a Travel Clinic at Galleries Health Centre for Holiday Vaccinations. Please note not all holiday vaccinations are free and there may be a charge. Please ask at Reception for further details.
Family Planning
All of the doctors are available to give advice on family planning, including oral contraception and the morning after pill. The referrals for fitting of coils, sterilization and terminations can also be arranged. Please make an appointment in the usual way by contacting 0191 5656256.
